In this episode, “Breast Cancer, what is my risk?”, listen as we chat with our guest Brook Cribbs regarding her experience with genetic testing, receiving a positive genetic test with the CHEK2 gene, and her journey through making the difficult decision to participate in a prophylactic mastectomy. Understanding the complexity of the decision with the vast array of options available can be overwhelming, however with support, research, and knowledge Brooke was able to make the decision that was right for her.
About Brooke Cribbs:
Born and raised in Ohio, Brooke attended The Ohio State University where she met her husband Courtney. After her father passed away Brooke, Courtney, and their then young girls took a leap of faith and moved to Charleston, SC. Brooke took another leap of faith and quit her government job to start her DIY blog, Cribbs Style. There she helps people navigate the chaos of life one DIY and organizing project at a time. After Brooke’s mother passed suddenly from breast cancer, Brooke also discovered she had the cancer gene and decided to have a prophylactic double mastectomy. She also shares this journey and advocates for others to be proactive about their health.
